Documentation and Note-taking
- When working remotely, clear communication and documentation become even more important
- Take notes during work sessions, focusing on the thinking process and key steps
- Document critical links and actions (what you did, when, and how) in Notion or Slack as you work, rather than planning to do it later.
- Ensure that what you document can be understood and used by colleagues, even if you are not there to explain it.
Time Management
- Estimate how long tasks take to complete for better planning and budgeting
- Be mindful of using work hours effectively, especially when working part-time
Attention to Detail
- Double-check all settings and configurations, especially for recurring tasks
- Pay attention to legal requirements, such as accessibility for web services
- Do not expect others to complete your tasks or fix your errors because they may have more experience than you do.
- Instead, strive to complete tasks so that the rest of the team is confident that the task has been done correctly and completely.
- If you make mistakes that are caught by others in the team, reflect on what happened and what proactive steps you can take in the future
Collaboration
- In meetings, we focus on actually completing tasks whenever we can, rather than just talking about them
- If you see that you are not needed in a meeting, stay connected but shift to focusing on your own task. You can let the team that you are doing this. It is accepted and encouraged.
- Be prepared to explain your actions and decisions to team members
