Learning community life events and celebrations policy
Last update: 5 April 2023
Preamble
The Geneva Learning Foundation (TGLF) is an apolitical and secular organization committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse community of learners and alumni from various backgrounds, faiths, and cultures.
- This policy outlines the Foundation's approach to acknowledging significant life events and holidays for learning community members while maintaining a consistent programme schedule.
- By implementing this policy, the Foundation aims to celebrate and honor the richness of its community's diverse traditions while maintaining consistency in the programme schedule.
Acknowledging Life Events
The Foundation recognizes the importance of significant life events, such as weddings, births, and bereavements.
- The Foundation encourages its community members to share these events with fellow learners and alumni through established communication channels, fostering a sense of unity and support.
- Foundation staff will strive to ensure that at least one person replies personally to individuals, sharing appropriate wishes (condolences, congratulations, etc.) on behalf of the entire foundation team.
- However, the Foundation will not share such events itself through its official channels unless there is a compelling rationale to make an exception.
- As part of our policy for life events, we offer support and flexibility to our team members during difficult times.
- If someone is experiencing an illness, has had a death in the family, or is going through another significant life event, we encourage them to take the time they need to care for themselves and their loved ones.
- We understand the importance of work-life balance and prioritize the well-being of our team members.
Holiday Celebrations Policy
While the Foundation acknowledges various cultural and religious holidays, it is unable to adjust the programme schedule to accommodate each specific holiday due to their vast number and varying nature.
- Instead, the Foundation will identify and acknowledge key holidays from different cultures and religions.
- We celebrate a variety of cultural and religious festivities, including but not limited to: New Year's greetings, Chinese New Year, Diwali, Easter Sunday, Eid El Kebir and Eid Al Adhar (end of Ramadan), Hannukah, and Buddhist holidays.
